Seminars

How do we come up with these topics? It's a matter of approaching faculty and asking: "What dream course would you love to teach?"

These courses are unique and often inspired by new research that is too specific to fit into a department. Expect each seminar lasts 1 to 3 hours and will start with the prefix HON. Some recent interdisciplinary classes have included:

• The Story of Wilmington through Archives and Museums
• Consumer Culture and Shopping Society
• Brazilian Music in Beat and Cultural Movements
• Science in Harry Potter
• Amigos y Escolares
• Bald Head Island
• The Physics of Interstellar
• HIV/AIDS in Culture

Honors classes are also an opportunity for faculty to collaborate across disciplines. For example, the HIV/AIDS in Culture is taught by faculty members in the Biology and Theatre departments.

Many of our seminars include a short-term trip such as:

• The Bald Head Island seminar travels each spring break to do field work.
• Amigos y Escolares works with elementary school ESL students to assist them with schoolwork.
• The Story of Wilmington travels to historical sites around our city.

Interdisciplinary seminars are meant to engage you and push you outside your comfort zone, in the best way possible.
