Continuity of Instruction

Resources and Tips

Communicating with your students early and often is key to a positive experience for both you and your students during this unexpected interruption. Consider the following:

  • How will you communicate with students?
  • What information should you include in your first message to students?
    • Outline how students should contact you, share your short-term course plan, and communicate early, even if plans are still being finalized.
    • Provide information on student resources and ensure students know how to reach out for support. (TAC, Canvas Student Support)
    • Detail how and when assignments will be distributed and submitted and explain how students can find and access course materials.

Use UNCW learning management system (LMS) Canvas to distribute course materials likely to be affected schedule, syllabus, upcoming readings, etc.

Which lectures in your course will be affected during a crisis? How will you deliver these lectures if you cannot meet face-to-face?

  • Synchronous: Schedule a time to meet with your students live online.
  • Asynchronous: Share recorded lectures with your students through Canvas.

Canvas is a secure platform for assigning, collecting, grading, and providing feedback on assignments, allowing you to track student work centrally and easily.

When monitored testing is needed.
