Students who begin their UNCW journey as first-year will be initially advised by the Center for Academic Advising and will be assigned to a WCE SSC advisor once they have declared their pre-major in one of our majors. Students who transfer in with over thirty credits will begin their educational journey with us. The SSC advisors are here to guide and empower students to become reflective leaders who positively impact schools and society. We look forward to collaborating with our students as they navigate each step of their journey to degree completion.
Your SSC Advisor will help you develop a plan of study through graduation, including important dates and deadlines for your degree. All our majors utilize a cohort model allowing students to form a close bond with their peers as they progress through their degree.
Students begin taking education courses their first term at UNCW. Students need admission to WCE before they begin their upper-level courses. For students who begin their first-year at UNCW, this means applying to WCE in their sophomore year. Transfer students must complete at least nine (9) credit hours at UNCW before being eligible for admission.
Your SSC advisor will work with the Office of Professional Experiences to ensure your field experiences help you develop your skills and knowledge as a future educator. Education students begin field experiences as early as their first-year at UNCW. These hands-on field experiences are an integral part of our curriculum and allow students to gain real-world experience in the classroom. This is a unique feature of our students’ college experience and professional development.
