Parking & Transportation Services

Effectively and efficiently manage university parking and transportation resources in support of UNCW's teaching, research, and service mission. Our guiding principle is to support the university's strategic plan through parking and transportation initiatives that directly relate to creating a welcoming environment for UNCW stakeholders, increasing accessibility to campus, and delivering world-class operations and infrastructure. 

Philosophy and Goals

Parking and Transportation reports to Business Services within the Business Affairs Division. Services consist of parking lot inventory management, parking enforcement, parking permit sales, finance and administration, special event parking, shuttle services (contracted through WAVE Transit), e-bike and e-scooter services (through BIRD), bicycle rentals, and bicycle registration and support. Goals include but are not limited to:

• Facilitating access to campus as efficiently and effectively as possible using a variety of modalities
• Enforcing applicable rules and regulations fairly and consistently to meet the needs of a growing campus
• Providing/maintaining facilities that improve access to campus and promote safety for users
• Offering convenient and sustainable transportation modalities that benefit the environment and the user

Parking is required by NC law to be self-supporting and does not receive state funding or tuition dollars. This means a majority of revenue comes from permit fees. There are state statutes governing parking fines (GS 115C-457.1-3, page 305). Revenues from parking citations (80%) must be remitted to the state, and they allocate the money to local public schools (elementary, middle, and high schools). Compliance with UNCW's parking rules and regulations ensures adequate parking for students, faculty, staff as well as visitors.
