Summer Overnight Programming

Summer Program Resources

We cannot wait to provide your student with a safe, educational and fun overnight experience on UNCW's campus with MarineQuest.

Excited to stay overnight this summer?

Our overnight programming is designed to continue your MarineQuest experience beyond the day's activities. Students will gain a taste of university student life while building community with other marine science enthusiasts. Students will participate in age appropriate activities and have free time supervised by MarineQuest evening instructors and residential assistants. 

 

Campus Living

UNCW MarineQuest occupies a university residential hall for the duration of our overnight offerings. We share this space with other UNCW Academic Youth programming.

UNCW MarineQuest occupies our own floors. As a state policy, we do occupy one floor for girls and one floor for boys.

Terrapin Hall will be your student's home away from home. The facility is a suite-style space with both single and double rooms.

How's the food?

UNCW MarineQuest works with campus catering for almost all student meals. 

We work closely with them to accommodate dietary restrictions and ensure that students are offered a balanced and healthy diet.  For more information about campus dining check out their website.

Typical Evening Schedule

MarineQuest's evening programming will allow your student an opportunity to clean up, rest, and re-energize mind and body.  

  • 4 PM: Clean up from the day's adventures and enjoy a short "free choice" time at the residence hall. 
  • 5 PM: Dinner at the Dining Hall
  • 6 - 9 PM: Evening Activities.  Some of our favorite evening activities include beach night at Wrightsville Beach, team games at UNCW's recreation complex, science night at the Center for Marine Science, and fireworks at the Carolina Beach Boardwalk.  Even rainy evenings are fun with indoor activities like robotics challenges, marine-theme arts and crafts, escape room quests, and theme activity nights.  
  • 9 PM: Wind down time: Get ready for bed and choose a calm activity such as reading, journaling, making friendship bracelets, guided stretching/yoga/meditation, working a puzzle, or just chatting with friends.  
  • 10 PM: Head in beds and lights out.  Rest is important as another big day awaits us tomorrow! 

Overnight Questions?

No, linens are not provided.  Students must bring their own bedding and towels.  Please do not bring bulky comforters.  

One week program participants should bring extra-long twin sheets, blanket/sleeping bag, pillow, and bath towels.  

O.C.E.A.N.S. and Oceans 17 participants should bring full size sheets, blanket/sleeping bag, pillow, and bath towels.  

Please refer to your student's Welcome Packet. 

 

Laundry facilities are available at no cost. Please bring detergent.

No electronic equipment is allowed including cell phones. 

If your student requires technology please contact us for approval. 

You will receive a Welcome Packet with detailed information on what to bring and what to expect after registering for overnight.

Evening activities for overnight students may include beach trips, campus exploration, scavenger hunts, team building and leadership activities, movie nights, and more.

Multi-week programs have access to the UNCW Student Recreation Center for court space, exercise equipment (limited access) and pools.
