Dr. Yousry Sayed initially joined the UNCW Board of Trustees in 2023 and recently was reappointed to the UNCW Board of Trustees by the UNC Board of Governors to serve a term extending to 2027.
He currently serves as Chair of the Audit, Risk & Compliance Committee and as a member of the Business Affairs Committee, Educational Planning and Programs Committee, and Executive Committee. He and his wife, Linda ’78, ’85M are residents of Wilmington, NC.
Dr. Sayed is president and CEO of Quality Chemical Laboratories, a company headquartered in Wilmington that serves the pharmaceutical industry.
Prior to founding Quality Chemical Laboratories in 1998, he had a distinguished career at UNCW as a professor in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry and as an academic administrator. As a faculty member, he was an outstanding teacher, mentor and researcher who received the Chancellor's Teaching Excellence Award in 1993.
As UNCW’s director of General College (now known as University Studies), he was instrumental in improving academic advising and increasing retention and graduation rates. Dr. Sayed continues to make a difference at UNCW through a transformational gift and through the hiring of numerous UNCW graduates.
He also served on the advisory board for the Chemical Tech program at Cape Fear Community College. He earned degrees from Cairo University (M.Sc.) and the University of Minnesota (Ph.D.).
