Starfish: A Tool for Student Success

Starfish for Faculty & Staff

NEW! Starfish Statement for Syllabi (optional):

Starfish is UNCW’s student success technology designed to connect you with the instructors and staff who are here to help you succeed.  Some of the ways you may connect with Starfish are by scheduling appointments or receiving notifications (concerns and kudos – things you’ve done well!).  You can also connect with student support services in Starfish, such as the University Learning Center and Disability Resource Center.  Please visit uncw.edu/starfish or email starfish@uncw.edu if you have Starfish-related questions.

Progress surveys are used by instructors and advisors to identify students who may be in need of additional assistance. We deploy progress surveys through Starfish three times a semester directly to the instructor of record and the instructor of record completes the survey for each section of a course. Any indication of a student needing support is shared with the student and advisor. The advisor then reaches out to the student and offers support. You can expect to see requests for progress survey completion between August and November in the Fall. Thank you for supporting students. See the link below titled “Responding to a Progress Survey” for more assistance.

Starfish is a great way to stay organized with my students and share information campus-wide. I also appreciate how this tool integrates easily with Outlook.
