Appointments

Appointments can be made up to 10 days in advance using our online appointment system. No appointments can be made fewer than 24 hours in advance.

Follow the steps below to schedule an individual appointment with the ULC:

  1. Login to our online appointment system using your UNCW username and password.
  2. Click "Find Appointments and Drop-In Help."
  3. Choose the subject you would like help with from the drop down menu.
  4. Choose the reason you would like help from the drop down menu.
  5. Choose "Search."
  6. The pop-up window will display upcoming availabilities. Green options are appointments, blue options are drop-in sessions. Please note that Writing and OWL appointments are only for help with writing assignments, not for content tutoring.
  7. Choose the appointment Date and Time you want to schedule.
  8. If you would like to hold your appointment online via Zoom, check the "Online" box in the next pop-up window. Otherwise, your appointment will be in person in DePaolo 1056.
  9. Enter any notes you want your tutor to know before the appointment.
  10. Choose "Confirm".
  11. You will receive an automatic e-mail confirming your appointment.
  12. On the main menu page, you may also opt in to activate text message reminders (click on "Edit BIO" and in the pop-up window choose "Yes" for "Receive SMS Alerts / Reminders").

MAKE THE MOST OUT OF IT:

Come prepared. We ask for students to be fully engaged in the learning process. Our services are a supplement to regular class attendance, not a substitute.

The peer educator will speak with a ULC Coordinator over the course of the next two sessions if a student is clearly unprepared. Students could be removed from tutoring if they are repeatedly unprepared for their session.

STUDENTS SHOULD...

  • Be prepared.
  • Attend all classes.
  • Read assigned materials and complete or attempt assignments.
  • Bring important materials such as:
    • Textbooks
    • Class notes
    • Pencils
    • Calculator
    • Syllabus
    • Copy of assignment
    • Rough draft
    • Ideas
  • Bring a flashdrive if you want to use a computer.
  • Have a clear goal in mind for your appointment.
  • Participate actively in the session.
  • Be willing to try new ideas suggested by your peer educator.
  • Schedule appointments ahead of time. Don't wait until the last minute to get help!
  • Work out problems before asking for help. Peer educators will be better able to help you if they can see your work.

PEER EDUCATORS WILL:

  • Ask you lots of questions.
  • Encourage you to work in groups when appropriate.
  • Help you with test preparation and study skills.
  • Make suggestions, not lecture or grade you.
  • Take the time to explore your concerns about the assignment.
  • Work with you to help you grasp the concepts.

PEER EDUCATORS WON'T:

  • Complete an assignment for you.
  • Correct your assignment.
  • Email you materials in lieu of your appointment.
  • Help with take-home exams or quizzes.

Appointments must be canceled at least 24 hours before they are scheduled to occur. Appointments cancelled fewer than 24 hours in advance will count as a missed appointment (see our Attendance Policy).

Do NOT contact your tutor directly! Doing so will not cancel your appointment.

To cancel your appointment, follow these steps:

  1. Login to our online appointment system using your UNCW username and password
  2. Your upcoming appointments will be displayed in a yellow box. You can scroll through the dates to find the appointment you need to cancel.
  3. Once you have found the correct appointment date and time, click on the "X" button to cancel the appointment.
  4. The pop-up box will prompt you to provide a reason for your cancellation, which is helpful to us!
  5. Click "Cancel Appointment" to finalize the cancellation.

You may also call or email the ULC to cancel your appointment.

Please note that declining or responding to the Outlook calendar invitation emailed to you when you scheduled your appointment will not actually cancel your appointment - you must follow the steps above.
