MAKE THE MOST OUT OF IT:

Come prepared. We ask for students to be fully engaged in the learning process. Our services are a supplement to regular class attendance, not a substitute.

The peer educator will speak with a ULC Coordinator over the course of the next two sessions if a student is clearly unprepared. Students could be removed from tutoring if they are repeatedly unprepared for their session.

STUDENTS SHOULD...

  • Be prepared.
  • Attend all classes.
  • Read assigned materials and complete or attempt assignments.
  • Bring important materials such as:
    • Textbooks
    • Class notes
    • Pencils
    • Calculator
    • Syllabus
    • Copy of assignment
    • Rough draft
    • Ideas
  • Bring a flashdrive if you want to use a computer.
  • Have a clear goal in mind for your appointment.
  • Participate actively in the session.
  • Be willing to try new ideas suggested by your peer educator.
  • Schedule appointments ahead of time. Don't wait until the last minute to get help!
  • Work out problems before asking for help. Peer educators will be better able to help you if they can see your work.

PEER EDUCATORS WILL:

  • Ask you lots of questions.
  • Encourage you to work in groups when appropriate.
  • Help you with test preparation and study skills.
  • Make suggestions, not lecture or grade you.
  • Take the time to explore your concerns about the assignment.
  • Work with you to help you grasp the concepts.

PEER EDUCATORS WON'T:

  • Complete an assignment for you.
  • Correct your assignment.
  • Email you materials in lieu of your appointment.
  • Help with take-home exams or quizzes.

Appointments must be canceled at least 24 hours before they are scheduled to occur. Appointments cancelled fewer than 24 hours in advance will count as a missed appointment (see our Attendance Policy).

To cancel your appointment, follow these steps:

  1. Login to our online appointment system using your UNCW username and password
  2. Your upcoming appointments will be displayed in the widget that starts with today's date. Appointments will appear as a yellow box with appointment details in this widget. You can scroll through the dates to find the appointment you want to cancel.
  3. Once you have found the appointment you want to cancel, click on the "X" button in the yellow box to cancel the appointment.
  4. A pop-up box will prompt you to provide a reason for your cancellation. This is helpful to us and to your fellow students!
    • If you are cancelling fewer than 24 hours before the appointment, you will also be reminded that cancelling fewer than 24 hours before the appointment will count as a missed appointment.
    • If you are cancelling an appointment that is part of a series of recurring appointments, you will also be asked whether you want to cancel a single appointment or all recurring appointments.
    • If you want to cancel all recurring appointments and it is fewer than 24 hours before a recurring appointment is scheduled, you will need to call the ULC.
  5. Click "Cancel Appointment" to finalize the cancellation.

You may also call or email the ULC to cancel your appointment.

Do NOT contact your tutor directly! Doing so will NOT cancel your appointment - you must follow the steps above.

Also note that declining or responding to the Outlook calendar invitation you received when you scheduled your appointment will NOT cancel your appointment - you must follow the steps above.
