Sustainable Events

Any event - large or small - can be certified through the Sustainable Event Program. Whether you're facilitating a conference or an office year-end gathering, we're confident that a few simple steps can help make your event a little greener. Small changes make a huge difference!

For all certified events, the Office of Sustainability will provide you with a digital logo to use in your marketing materials, help create signage to highlight sustainability aspects of your event, and provide guidance on logistics and ordering. Our Peer Educators will also bring a display plaque to use the day of your event highlighting your work. 

Event organizers apply for recognition, and our office will work through the application with you. Each event is different, and most events on campus already do what's needed to achieve our base recognition.

The Sustainable Events Program recognizes three levels of commitment:

Blue Talon - you are contributing to the mission of sustainability on campus through basic, everyday choices. 

Teal Talon - you are a steward of sustainability by choosing to include small changes to make your event more green. 

Gold Talon - our highest ranking - your event is a champion for sustainability! You have chosen to do the work and implement sustainable options. From food choices to swag options, you've thought through each decision in the planning process and opted for the green alternative.

Building a culture of sustainability across campus can't be driven by just one office. It's the collective force of an institution choosing to be more sustainable in everything they do that creates that culture. We're thankful to the organizations and departments that have worked with us to facilitate events that are less resource intensive, and we look forward to future engagements through new partnerships across our campus community.
