Sexual Assault

If You Are Sexually Assaulted:

• If possible, get to a safe place and consider calling a friend or family member to be with you.
• Call for help. CARE advocates are available at 910.512.4821 for crisis calls and consultations or in-person for hospital response and police interviews.
• To report the assault, call University Police at 911 or  910.962.2222 If you wish to report an assault to law enforcement or want to retain the option of reporting in the future it is recommended to limit bathing, douching, brushing your teeth or hair, or changing clothes. Trained nurses at the emergency room of your local hospital are able to perform a sexual assault exam (SANE). If you are unsure about reporting, the exam can be done anonymously and kept for up to a year.
• You do not have to report the assault to receive support.   
• It can be helpful to seek medical attention. You may have injuries of which you are unaware. 
• You can get checked for sexually transmitted infections and/or access emergency contraception at the Student Health Center. 
• If you would like to keep a record of the incident, without reporting, Callisto is a resource that is not affiliated with any university but can safely and confidentially store any information you’d like to share. This encrypted database is exclusive to college students and can trace patterns of repeat offenders.  
• Victim response is also available by calling the community Rape Crisis Center at 910.329.4760.
