Atlantis accepts submissions of prose (short fiction and nonfiction), poetry, visual art, photography, and images of three-dimensional art from undergraduate and graduate students throughout North Carolina (public, private, and community colleges) during the fall and spring submission periods.

All submissions are made online. Click on the Submit link and follow the instructions.

Executive staff of The Seahawk, Atlantis, TealTV and Hawkstream Radio earn small stipends. Advertising staff receive an hourly wage. All others working for student publications volunteer their time.
For editorial coverage, contact our editors directly, as early as possible--we recommend two weeks or more in advance. Email works best. The Seahawk and Seahawk Central News also welcome news tips. Contact information is available here. Or call the adviser at 910-962-7138.

The Seahawk welcomes proposals from guest commentators. Contact the editor-in-chief to propose your idea.

Articles must be delivered by electronically, preferably by email. The Seahawk assesses all submissions for journalistic rigor and style.

Email it directly to the editor-in-chief. Include your full name, phone number and city of residence, and indicate whether we may publish your name with the letter. Letters to the editor may be up to 250 words in length. The Seahawk reserves the right to make minor edits for clarity and length.
Yes. If you are an enrolled junior or senior, you may be eligible to earn up to six credits, depending on your major, as an intern with The Seahawk newspaper. Most of our interns work as news reporters, copy editors, or photographers. Approval by the department of your major is required, and restrictions may apply. Internships require 120 hours of work over a semester. Contact the internship coordinator in the department of your major for details.

No, but UNCW's Journalism Minor is a robust 21-credit, interdisciplinary curriculum offered by the departments of English and Communication Studies. Combined with working for a student publication, it's a great way to jump-start a career in journalism, marketing, publishing, the sciences, and law. See this page for details.

No. Hawkstream Radio was founded as an online streaming radio station in the early 2000s, but reconfigured itself in 2019 as a podcast-production studio under the aegis of TealTV.
The individual authors or creators retain copyright of works published in our student publications. For work from outside the organizations, permissions agreements are struck between the contributors and the publication, permitting the publication of the work for a specified duration and in specified ways.
Atlantis is available free from magazine racks throughout UNCW's Campus Life buildings and at the Student Media Center (FSC 2017). Atlantis publishes print issues in November and April, plus an online edition in summer.

TealTV presents Seahawk Central News, Seahawk Central Sports, and other programs weekly on its YouTube channel.
We are on the second floor of the Fisher Student Center, suite 2017. We are open Monday through Friday, 8AM to 5PM. Visitor parking is available nearby, in Lot M.
No. Use of Student Media equipment is reserved for use by authorized members of our registered student-media organizations.
The student editors choose all the content they publish. The university, its faculty, staff and advisers, have no prior knowledge of the students' content and do not review content before publication. Student publications at UNCW are editorially independent of the university and possess all the rights and responsibilities of professional publications.
Most of our student media receive student fees allocated by the Student Media Board. Flicker Film Society receives fee funding allocated by the Student Government Association. The Seahawk supplements its fee funding with revenue earned from advertising sales and sponsorships. The Student Media fee is currently assessed at $12.50 per full-time equivalent student (FTE) per year, plus additional fees from summer enrollment.
Yes. Each year, the Student Media Board seats two student-at-large who are otherwise unaffiliated with any student-media organization. They represent the voice of the broader student body. Candidates must maintain a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA to qualify. Applications for volunteer service on the SMB are accepted in the spring and summer for the following school academic year. The board meets monthly in the fall and twice monthly in the spring.
