Hawk's Harvest

At Hawk’s Harvest the student shopper gets to select their food items from the shelves and friendly staff are on hand to answer questions related to food items/recipes, campus resources, etc. Pantry items include an expanded selection of your favorite pantry items (like pasta/sauce, cereal, soup, mac ‘n cheese, PB&J) as well as toiletries. We also have a small selection of refrigerated and frozen items – the items vary so ask about this week’s features when you stop in!

Who can utilize the Hawk’s Harvest Food Pantry?

The pantry is open to any UNCW student who is currently enrolled and experiencing food insecurity*. Shoppers need to show a valid UNCW OneCard upon arrival.

*Food insecurity is the limited or uncertain availability of nutritionally adequate and safe foods, or limited or uncertain ability to acquire acceptable foods in socially acceptable ways.

I would like to help support Hawk’s Harvest, what can I do?

Donations are what keep Hawk’s Harvest going! Consider coordinating a food or toiletry drive with your office, club, or group. A list of frequently needed items can be found below and you can always email us for additional information at hawksharvest@uncw.edu. We ask that large donations be pre-sorted by item type before dropping off. You can also make a financial donation to support Hawk’s Harvest.

Option 1: Financial Donations:

Make your online donation HERE, or explore the Employee Giving options HERE. Select “Student Food Pantry Support Fund” when making your donation.

Option 2: Donation Drop-Off

Donations can be dropped off at one of the following locations:

  • The Campus Life Office, room 2041 of the Fisher University Union
  • The CHHS Student Success Center in Veteran’s Hall
  • The CHHS Student Success Center in McNeill Hall
Please email hawksharvest@uncw.edu to plan your donation drive and to arrange a drop-off time once completed.

*Please note: If you have a large donation, please sort by type of item before you drop off.

What Items are Needed?

Below is a list of our most needed items:

  • Cereal, pop tarts and cereal/granola bars
  • Condiments and spices
  • Canned Chunky Soups (With and Without Meat)
  • Fun shaped pasta (e.g., rotini, penne) and flavored sauce
  • New and gently used can openers
  • Toiletries (e.g., period products, toothpaste, toothbrushes, deodorant, soap, shampoo, conditioner)
  • We also accept: canned tuna and chicken, rice (please no large bags), pasta/rice and sauce packets, peanut butter and jelly, canned pasta (e.g., Chef Boyardee), macaroni & cheese, and ramen

*Please no canned vegetables at this time - we currently have an overabundance in our inventory, thank you!

NUTRITION & MEAL PLANNING

FEMININE HYGIENE PRODUCTS

Are available at Hawk’s Harvest AND in the women’s restrooms in the following locations on campus: Fisher University Union, Fisher Student Center, Warwick (lobby), UNCW Library, Education Building, Wagoner Dining Hall (lobby), Leonard Student Recreation Center (both Women’s locker rooms), The Shore, & The HUB.

CAMPUS EMPLOYMENT

Many students work on-campus in Campus Life, Campus Recreation, Housing and Residence Life, and in a variety of offices! SEAHAWK SWAP SHOP

In partnership with SGA, the Seahawk Swap Shop is UNCW's first campus free store. Open to anyone with a OneCard, we invite students, faculty, and staff to shop and donate. We believe that one person's unwanted items can be another's treasure! The store stocks just about anything: clothing and accessories, household decor and office supplies, kitchen items and small appliances. SWIPES FOR SEAHAWKS

UNCW students experiencing food insecurity are eligible to apply for meal swipe assistance during the fall and spring semesters. You must be a currently enrolled student and without a meal plan.  You can apply by completing the on-line application, and once approved, a small number of meals (typically 5-10) will be added to your OneCard for immediate use at the “all you care to eat” dining locations (Wag, The Shore, Dubs).

FINANCIAL AID

Seahawk Emergency Aid Fund:  The purpose of the fund is to assist UNCW students with unexpected expenses that they may incur during the academic year and/or summer for which they are enrolled.  The fund is not intended to assist with natural disasters, pandemics, etc. (support for those are typically resourced by other entities like the Federal Government, State, and/or UNCW Donors).  The Seahawk Emergency Aid Fund can support expenses such as: Childcare, Dental, Medical, Housing, Food, Graduation expenses, Transportation, etc.
