Collegiate Recovery Community

Governor Pat McCrory declared Thursday, September 5, 2013 as Collegiate Recovery Community Day in the state of North Carolina stating, “the CRC is a federally funded program providing many supports to our UNCW community. Members of UNCW's CRC participated in the signing, along with groups from UNC Charlotte, UNC Chapel Hill, and Duke University”. Please be on the lookout for all programming efforts, especially during National Recovery Month in September.

  • A supportive community within the campus culture that reinforces the decision to disengage from addictive behaviors
  • Educational opportunities alongside recovery support to ensure that students do not have to sacrifice one for the other
  • Accountability for students in recovery that comes from self, peers, and higher education staff
  • A normative college experience for students in recovery apart from the culture of drinking/use that is present on today's campuses
  • A comprehensive network, support services, and cohesive, vibrant community to students in recovery, in hopes of recovery, and those who support recovery.
  • Provide a supportive, peer group for students in recovery
  • Connect students with resources on and off campus
  • Provide opportunities for personal growth and development
  • Support the unique challenges and struggles that students in recovery experience
  • Sponsor fun sober social activities both on and off campus
  • Provide meeting space for mutual support group meetings
  • Hold students accountable to their individual recovery plan
  • Challenge students to experience new activities both as individuals, as well as part of a community
  • Build school spirit via sober UNCW traditions
  • Connect students with service work opportunities
  • Connect students with UNCW Alumni in Recovery for personal/professional mentorship
  • Provide opportunities for Leadership and Professional development
  • Help students find supportive housing

If you would like to discuss referrals to a local inpatient or outpatient treatment program, please contact the Health Promotion office and ask to speak to our Direct Services Coordinator, Nicole Barr. You can also consult SAMSHA's virtual Treatment Finder service. Please note that UNCW does NOT endorse any local treatment program over another.
