First-Year Applicants

Housing Application Information

Classification

Students who begin their first academic year at UNCW immediately after graduating high school are considered first year students.

Residency Requirement

Students classified as first-year students are required to live in on-campus housing for their first two years at UNCW. Get more information on this housing requirement.

Meal Plan Requirement

First-year students are required to participate in one of the Hawk meal plans. See additional information regarding meal plans.

First-year students are required to live in a traditional first-year residence hall. Here are the options:

Each Living Learning Community is assigned to a specific area of campus. You may select up to 3 building preferences and 1 roommate preference. However, the Living Learning Community you join will determine where you will be assigned.

Typically, your requested roommate must also be a member of that community. University College should be able to provide more information about their Learning Communities' processes and programs.

Affinity communites are spaces in our Residence Halls where students can learn, collaborate, and explore the communities they identify with. UNCW currently has two Affinity communities:

  • P.R.I.S.M. Promoting Respect and Inclusion for Sexuality and gender Mattering
  • M.O.S.I.A.C. Mentoring Outstanding Students of panAfrican Influence and Culture

  • Once assignments have been made, you will receive notification via your UNCW email with instructions on how to view your assignment and roommate information on your MySeaport.
  • Please note: Housing assignments are made based on housing application completion date and time and preferences submitted during the application are not guaranteed. However, we try our best to accommodate requests if possible.
