Auditing allows a student to enroll in and attend a course without earning academic credit.
Students who are not currently enrolled must contact Admissions before requesting an audit. The Office of the Registrar will register students for approved audit course(s) on the first day of classes for the term.
How to Request an Audit or Graded Audit
Log into MySeaport and select Student.
Click Course Audit Request.
Select the term and submit.
On the Select Form page, review audit and graded audit differences, choose your option, and submit.
Select the subject, course, and section.
Review your selection and click Submit for Approval.
You will receive an email confirmation, and the instructor will be asked to approve or deny your request.
For graded audits, the course dean must also approve after the instructor.
You may track your request by clicking Check Status of Audit/Graded Audit Form in the Registration menu.
Once all approvals are granted, the Registrar’s Office will attempt to register you on the first day of classes for the term. If conflicts prevent registration, the Registrar will work with approvers to try to resolve the issue.
Instructor Approval Process
Instructors must enter necessary overrides before approving requests to avoid delays. To review requests, log into MySeaport, select the Faculty tab, and open Audit Registration Request Decisions. From the list of pending approvals, select a request ID, then approve or deny. Comments may be added and will be visible to the student.
Senior Citizen Audit
North Carolina residents aged 65 and older may audit courses tuition-free. All audit rules apply. Senior citizens must apply through the Office of Admissions.
