The UNCW Counseling Center is currently not able to offer this training opportunity. If you have any questions about training, please call the center at (910) 962-3746.

When staffing allows, the UNCW Counseling Center offers a practicum experience to advanced graduate students in Counseling, Clinical Social Work or Psychology. This involves a one to two semester commitment and requires approximately 15 -20 hours per week of your time. An option to extend into the next semester may be negotiated.

The advanced practicums are competitive and we may provide opportunities for 1-2 students per semester. These programs are intensive and require a major commitment of your time. Students who successfully complete a program will have greater knowledge and experience in addressing the mental health needs of the college student population.

Trainees will have a variety of opportunities and requirements in their practicum. This will include assigned readings, an orientation to reception and scheduling, and supervised practice of intake, assessment, consultation, counseling, outreach, psycho-education and testing. The experience is an opportunity to begin to clarify one's professional identity, and particularly with a view towards training future professionals for counseling in higher education settings.

If you have difficulty accessing any information from the Counseling Center web pages or other information throughout our site, please contact us by telephone at 910-962-3746 or by email at and we will provide alternatives.
