Frequently Asked Questions

At GPAC, we are committed to providing accessible, supportive care for adults, ages 18 and older. Our services are designed for individuals seeking help with general mental health concerns, such as anxiety, stress, mood difficulties, or life adjustments.

We provide individual adult therapy only, which means we do not offer services for children or adolescents (under 18), couples, or families. Our clinic focuses on adult care in a one‑on‑one setting to ensure clients receive personalized, attentive support.

In addition to therapy, we offer two types of psychological assessment for adults: ADHD evaluations and psychodiagnostic assessments to clarify mental health diagnoses. We do not currently provide Developmental & Learning Assessments, including autism spectrum disorder evaluations, for adults or children.

We do not accept health insurance, including Medicare or Medicaid.

For instructions on how to make an appointment, please visit our “Getting Started at GPAC” page. You may email us at gpac@uncw.edu or call the clinic office; email is our preferred and fastest way to reach us.

And yes, you need to schedule an appointment in advance as we do not offer walk-in services.

As a nonprofit training clinic, GPAC offers reduced‑cost services to make care accessible. Therapy sessions are based on an income‑adjusted sliding scale, typically $10–$40 per session, with your fee set collaboratively at the start of treatment. Assessment services are offered at flat rates of $250 for psychodiagnostic evaluations and $450 for adult ADHD assessments, which include all testing, scoring, interpretation, and a written report.

Because our services are provided by supervised doctoral student clinicians, we do not accept health insurance, including Medicare or Medicaid, and all fees must be paid directly by the client at the time of service. Before beginning therapy or assessment, you will receive a Good Faith Estimate outlining the expected cost of your care. There are no hidden charges—your costs will be clearly explained in advance.

We try to ensure that all prospective clients receive appointments as soon as possible. However, due to our affordable services, we are often operating on a waitlist. Our staff will let you know your position on the waitlist when you contact us about our services.

As a UNCW student, you are eligible for counseling services through the UNCW Counseling Center  and Student-Athlete Well-Being. We encourage you to consider their excellent services as a first step. We work closely with both the Counseling Center and the Office of Student-Athlete Well-Being to support mental health needs. When appropriate, UNCW students & student-athletes are also welcome to receive therapy or assessment services through GPAC. GPAC also offers a small number of specialized assessments—such as adult ADHD and psychodiagnostic evaluations—that complement the services available elsewhere on campus.

Our adult ADHD evaluation is a comprehensive process designed to help you understand your symptoms and receive personalized recommendations. The assessment includes a clinical interview, standardized testing, scoring and professional interpretation, a detailed written report, and a feedback session to review results and answer questions. The flat fee for an ADHD evaluation is $450, which covers all components of the assessment.

Evaluations are conducted by doctoral student clinicians who are extensively trained in psychological testing and work under the close supervision of licensed clinical psychologists. The process typically involves one intake session (about 90 minutes), one testing appointment (90 minutes to 3 hours), and a separate 60‑minute feedback session. Timing may vary depending on your needs.

Your report will include individualized recommendations that may support therapy, discussions with a medical provider, or workplace or school accommodations when appropriate. While GPAC does not prescribe medication, we can coordinate with your current provider or offer referrals if a medication consultation may be helpful.

To schedule an assessment, please email us at gpac@uncw.edu. Our team will follow up to gather information and help determine whether an ADHD evaluation is the best fit for your needs.

No. Psychologists do not have prescribing privileges, but we can coordinate with your current physician or provide a referral to a medical provider if medication evaluation is needed.

Because our services are provided by supervised doctoral student clinicians, we do not accept health insurance, including Medicare or Medicaid, and all fees must be paid directly by the client at the time of service.
