Do the labs meet the first week of class?
Yes. All face-to-face WPAL 101 labs meet on the first day of the scheduled lab in the location specified on SeaNet. Students should check their email for detailed instructions from their instructor about the first day of class.
Online labs will be available through the online course management system the first week of classes. Regularly checking UNCW email for information from Instructors is encouraged.
Do I need to dress out for the first day of lab?
No. On the first day of your scheduled lab, students will go over the syllabus, course schedule, what to expect and information related to the specific lab activity. Note: Attendance is very important.
Does UNCW offer a military waiver for WPA/L 101?
Yes. Refer to the Waiver/Substitution Guidelines for specific information on military waivers.
How can I find out if a course I took at another institution substitutes for WPA/L 101 and if the course is approved, what do I do?
Refer to the Waiver/Substitution Guidelines for specific information on this process of course substitution.
What if I have an injury and/or physical limitation that limits participation in the lab activity?
If you have a permanent physical limitation/disability and cannot safely participate in physical activity, accommodations are available. Refer to the Waiver/Substitution Guidelines for specific information.
If you are having trouble registering for WPA 101 and/or WPAL 101 please find solutions below.
- If you are receiving a prereq/coreq error: watch this video about how to correctly register for the courses. You must enter both the WPAL 101 and the corresponding WPA 101 CRN at the same time.
- If you are receiving an EXT error: this section of WPAL 101 is reserved for students in online degree programs. If you must take WPAL 101 online, reach out to the instructor to explain why and request an override into the course. If you do not need to take WPAL 101 online, register for a face to face WPAL 101.
- If you are receiving an Instructor Approval error: email the instructor to explain why you’d like to take their WPAL 101 section.
- If you previously completed or transferred in either WPA 101 or WPAL 101 and need a coreq override into the course you have not completed — email a screenshot of your degree audit showing what you have completed with your 850# and the CRN# of the course in which you’d like to enroll.
- If you continue to have problems or your problem is not addressed above, please contact the program coordinator Amy Olsen at olsenad@uncw.edu.
