Pre-Activity Screening
As part of the Lifetime Wellness requirement, students are required to participate in physical activity. If you have health concerns about participating in physical activity, it is strongly encouraged you visit a health care provider before the start of the course for medical clearance.
At the start of the course, you will be directed to complete a Physical Activity Readiness Form and if indicated, a Follow Up and Medical Clearance Form. Any modifications recommended by your health care provider will be met through WPAL and will not adversely affect your grade. Additional support can be found through Disability Resource Center.
Substitution Waiver
For students who would like to substitute courses completed at other academic institutions or request a course waiver for other reasons (military service, age, etc.), visit our Waiver and Substitution Guidelines.
Distance Education
A fully online version of WPA/L 101 is available only for UNCW extension and distance education students.
Students With Limitations
Students with limitations, due to a documented disability or chronic health condition, may request reasonable modifications or adaptations to participate to their greatest extent possible, while maintaining the course objectives.
Students who are unable to engage in physical activity, due to a documented disability or chronic health condition, may request a substitution of WPA/L 101 that does not require physical activity. Requests for modifications, adaptations and substitutions for these reasons must go through the Disability Resource Center.
