Orientation Leaders convey important information about UNCW and assist new students and their families with the transition into UNCW. Orientation Leaders ensure that the orientation program is beneficial, exciting, and educational in its content and presentation. There are three roles on the OL team: Orientation Coordinator, Orientation Leader Council, and first-year Orientation Leaders. The OL position is an outstanding opportunity for students interested in enhancing their leadership skills and for those interested in sharing their passion for UNCW.
Seahawk Links are UNCW upperclassmen students who assist incoming first-year students with their transition into college. Seahawk Links serve as positive role models and mentors to new students through interactions in the classroom, by assisting students with making connections to UNCW, and hosting events for first-year students to enhance their collegiate experience. Students are selected to be Seahawk Links based upon their interpersonal, academic and leadership skills, along with their University involvement.
Graduate Assistants for Transition Programs provide support for programming, student leadership development, and event coordination. The Office of Transition Programs oversees the coordination of new student orientation, convocation, family weekend, peer mentor programs for first-year students, services and support for first-generation and foster care students, and commencement.
Graduate Assistants receive a stipend of $12,000 to be dispersed over 10 months and an hourly rate during the month of June. Professional development funding to attend the Southern Region Orientation Workshop with the Association of Orientation, Transition, and Retention.
August 2024 – June 2025. This is an 11-month position. Twenty (20) hours per week are required, including some evenings and weekends. A project-based, remote work option is available during July at an hourly rate up to 20 hours per week. This position is renewable after one year.
