Orientation Leaders
Orientation Leaders convey important information about UNCW and assist new students and their families with the transition into UNCW. Orientation Leaders ensure that the orientation program is beneficial, exciting, and educational in its content and presentation. There are three roles on the OL team: Orientation Coordinator, Orientation Leader Council, and first-year Orientation Leaders. The OL position is an outstanding opportunity for students interested in enhancing their leadership skills and for those interested in sharing their passion for UNCW.
Seahawk Links
Seahawk Links are UNCW upperclassmen students who assist incoming first-year students with their transition into college. Seahawk Links serve as positive role models and mentors to new students through interactions in the classroom, by assisting students with making connections to UNCW, and hosting events for first-year students to enhance their collegiate experience. Students are selected to be Seahawk Links based upon their interpersonal, academic and leadership skills, along with their University involvement.

Graduate Assistant for Transition Programs (First Generation Programs) (Academic Year '25-'26)
The Office of Transition Programs provides a comprehensive array of programs designed to meet the unique needs of undergraduate students and families from orientation through graduation. Programs generate an intentional connection for the students through engaging interactions with other students, faculty, and staff. Some of the programs supported by the Office of Transition Programs are services for first-generation students, new student and family orientation, a peer mentor program for first-year students (Seahawk Links), transfer student programs, convocation, family weekend, and commencement.
Position Summary
The Graduate Assistant for Transition Programs (Seahawks First) provides support for success initiatives for first-generation students to include student leadership development and event coordination. Some evenings and weekends will be required. The Graduate Assistant for Transition Programs (Seahawks First) reports to the Assistant Director of First Generation Programs.
Responsibilities
- Assist with the recruitment of participants in Seahawks First programming
- Collect and report data related on Seahawks First programs
- Provide preparatory and day-of-event support for Seahawks First programming, and other office-wide events and programs
- Assist with the development of programming calendar for the upcoming academic year
- Assist in the coordination of First-Gen Week held annually on or around November 8
- Represent the Office of Transition Programs at campus events and programs
- Coordinate initiatives throughout the academic year to elevate the first-generation identity and the Seahawks First program
- Create social media content and other materials to promote programs
- Act as a Seahawks First liaison with campus partners
- Attend meetings with Transition Programs staff
- Perform general administrative tasks
Qualifications
Required:
- Must be a full-time UNCW graduate student
- Demonstrated leadership and organizational skills
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Strong writing and proofreading skills
- Ability to work independently and in a team
- Desire to work in a dynamic, high-impact environment
- Ability to present in front of and engage with diverse audiences
- Experience in student leadership
Preferred:
- Interest or first-generation student success and retention
- Experience in program and event planning and implementation
- Experience in supervision
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365
- Experience in Qualtrics survey software
- Experience with Adobe Creative Suite or Canva Design
Compensation
The position is compensated at a rate of $15.00 per hour.
Period Of Employment
August 2025 – May 2026. This is an nine-month position. Fifteen (15)-Twenty (20) hours per week are required, including some evenings and weekends. This position is renewable after one year.
