You'll first be notified once you've completed the FAFSA and receive your Student Aid Report from the Department of Education. Then around December, you'll receive a verification notification at your UNCW email address. The email will reflect exactly what is required and will also direct you to view additional guidance on SeaNet under Student Requirements (PDF) and under Active Messages.
Please note: Using the IRS Data Retrieval Tool (DRT) reduces the chance of a file being selected for verification and if still selected, less documentation will be required for those who complete the DRT.
You may mail, email, or fax required documents to our office. If you choose to email, please redact or otherwise obscure sensitive data (SSNs) while ensuring that the student name and ID number remain visible on each page.
Completing the necessary documents is required in order to receive a financial aid award. Respond immediately to avoid the possibility of missing out on state and/or institutional aid. Please do not submit documents until requested by our office.
Student ID numbers are required on ALL documents. Documents submitted without student ID numbers may not be accounted for properly. Due to the redacted nature of IRS documentation, Tax Return, Wage and Income and Verification of Non-Filing documents requested from the IRS must be sent to you directly, and then a copy should be submitted to our office with student ID number.
