Our Summer Enrichment Programs offer curriculum for children and teens from 4-17 with rich opportunities to develop their knowledge and passion for marine science while enjoying hands-on outdoor activities and water sports.
All of our programs take place at the beach, on the water, in the marshes and in some of UNCW’s state-of-the-art marine labs. Age-appropriate programs introduce children and teens to environmental science and marine-related topics at their level.
Full-day and half-day programs are available for the youngest learners, while older students can choose from a variety of topics, all of which are designed to spark an interest in science and environmental stewardship with curriculum developed from UNCW-based research.
Programs for All Levels and Interests
We have programs to fit a wide range of interests. See below for a sample of the wide range of topics and activities MarineQuest offers:
- Learn to snorkel or surf.
- Build a remote-control underwater vehicle.
- Learn about sharks, fish, shellfish, sea turtles and other creatures who inhabit our coastal waters.
- Look for interesting plants in our marshes.
- Check out our oyster hatchery.
- Explore what it’s like to be part of the crew of a research vessel.
Our programs put the safety of our students first. We have certified lifeguards who are present whenever students are around the water and, of course, students use floatation devices and safety helmets when the activity calls for it.
Each of our programs is academically sound and are reviewed by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools as part of the university's accreditation process.
