While participating in MarineQuest workshops you will meet UNCW scientists and learn how you can bring the ocean into your classroom.
We offer programs throughout the school year that are designed to fit your busy schedule. Examples of past workshops include:
- Field Day in the Salt Marsh
- A full-day, hands-on venture to help you introduce your students to the wonders of wetlands. Venture into the field with the MarineQuest team to get hands-on experience on how to introduce your students to the wonders of wetlands. This workshop included scientific field collections, identification, and assessment.
- Field Day at the Beach
- A full-day program on beach geology and ecology – conducted at the beach! Teachers learned how to present students with a visual representation of barrier island migration and erosion.
- How the Ocean Shapes Weather
- Experts shared their knowledge about monitoring and predicting extreme weather and the importance of natural resources in mitigating the effects of hurricanes and other severe weather. The team from the UNCW-based Coastal Ocean Research and Monitoring Program discussed the tools needed for long-term ocean quality monitoring and evaluation.
