New Student Move-In Information 2024

Welcome Seahawks!

Move-in is Friday, August 16, and Saturday, August 17, by your assigned residential area. All new students are expected to arrive on campus on their designated check-in day and time. All residents will receive their check-in time by August 9, 2024.

All residents will check in either at the Cultural Arts Building on Randall Drive or at Trask Coliseum on Wagoner Drive per their building assignment. The route to the Cultural Arts Building is highlighted in BLUE on the campus map, and the route to Trask Coliseum is highlighted in RED to pinpoint these check-in locations. Please follow the campus routes to each check-in location.

To assist with crowd management, we ask that only students enter the Cultural Arts Building and Trask to complete their check-in process. Families and friends can remain outside or near their vehicles in the parking lot. Additionally, we cannot accommodate check-ins outside of these windows.

Move-In Expectations

  • Reach out to your roommate (information may be available on mySeaport; please note that not all roommates have their information published, and housing cannot provide it to you). Discuss items you will each bring, discover common interests, and discuss how you will communicate with each other.
  • Confirm your arrival time and check-in window via the housing portal. Students will receive their arrival and check-in times by August 9, 2024.
  • Review the Campus Living Handbook to familiarize yourself with our policies and standards for behavior.
  • Locate your campus mail information by visiting mySeaport.
    1. Select"Student Services"
    2. Click on "Find Your Campus Post Office Box"

  • Pack your belongings and read the “What NOT to Pack” list. Please limit your belongings to one (1) car per resident.
  • Print your CAB or TRSK placard based on your assigned check-in location.
  • When entering campus, please ensure your CAB or TRSK placard is visible on your dashboard so you can be guided to the correct location.
  • Parking will be available in the nearby lots for each check-in location
  • Bring official identification (driver’s license, state ID, or passport) and be prepared to show it upon check-in. You will also need your UNCW One Card and medical insurance card. If you did not receive your UNCW One Card during Orientation, you will receive it upon check-in.
  • To assist with crowd management, we ask that only students enter their check-in location (Cultural Arts Building or Trask) to complete their check-in process. Families and friends can remain outside or near their vehicles in the parking lot.
  • We cannot accommodate check-ins outside of these windows.
  • Please follow campus signs and traffic control guidance to your check-in location to ensure a smooth move-in process. Directions to your specific residence hall will be provided at check-in. Do not go directly to your residence hall before checking in.
  • During check-in, you will complete paperwork, receive your room key and get directions to your residence hall.
  • We request that you bring only one carload of items. Trailers or U-Haul vehicles are strongly discouraged.
  • Label all items, boxes, containers, and totes with your name and room number.
    (Example: Sammy Seahawk, Belk 100)
  • Once you are on campus, do not use GPS or map applications to navigate to your residence hall during move-in. We change the traffic patterns for the day (please follow the traffic control and campus signage).
  • We will provide large rolling bins to assist with your move-in efforts; however, these are available on a first-come, first-served basis at each residence hall location. A team of volunteers will assist you with unloading your vehicle between the hours of 8 a.m. and 1 p.m.
  • While unloading your vehicle, the driver must always stay with the vehicle.
  • Residents and their guests are not permitted to park their car(s) in front of the residence halls.
  • Please prepare to pull up to an unloading zone, unload, and immediately park your car in a nearby parking lot.
  • Boxes, trash, and recycling containers will be available outside for items to be discarded. Please do not pile trash on the floors in the halls.
  • Residents are required to attend their mandatory residence hall meeting, where they will meet their Resident Assistant (RA) and learn university policies and standards for living well together.
  • Residents are strongly encouraged to take advantage of the opportunity to connect with one another through the Welcome Week Activities.

Other Important Info

  • If you plan to have a vehicle on campus during the academic year, check to ensure you have a virtual parking permit – a permit is required to park on campus 24/7.
    • Log in to the Parking Portal: To view your virtual permit zone or to register for a virtual permit.
    • Check Your Assigned Zone: View parking zones and parking locations in the parking portal
    • Student parking is within white lines within your assigned parking zone.
  • Because your parking permit is associated with your license plate, you must park with your license plate facing the drive lane (cannot back in or pull through a parking space). If you wish to pull through or back into a parking space, you must have a vanity license plate affixed to your vehicle's front bumper to comply with the license plate recognition technology. Vanity plates can be purchased through the parking portal. If your vehicle is licensed in a two-plate state and you already have a state-issued license plate on the front of your vehicle, a vanity plate is not needed. Parking Enforcement begins on Monday, August 19.

If you plan to bring a personal bicycle, you must register the bike at the Hawk Wheels Bike Shop in The Hub. Registration is FREE and mandatory. Bicycles can be rented for the semester or the academic year for a small fee through the Hawk Wheels Bike Shop. The new program will feature e-bikes and scooters and is a great alternate solution for getting around campus in a safe, sustainable manner. See Bike Share for more information.

All meal plans will be activated on August 16, 2024. Special Move-In dining hours will be in effect during and after move-in. Visit Dining for more information. Regular Fall Semester Dining Hours will begin on August 21, 2024.

If you DID NOT receive your One Card during Orientation, please submit your One Card photo as soon as possible to the One Card Photo Submission found in mySeaport to pick up your One Card at Move-In. Your One Card is required to proceed through the check-in process at move-in, enter the residence halls and access your meal plan.
