History


The University Community Relations Task Force was established in 2004 under the leadership of City of Wilmington Mayor Spence Broadhurst and University of North Carolina Wilmington (UNCW) Chancellor Rosemary DePaolo. The name was formally changed to the University Community Relations Alliance (UCRA) in March 2016. The name change was voted on by the Alliance and approved by the City of Wilmington. The name change signifies over 10 years of partnership with this group and the ongoing relationships in the Alliance.

October 27, 2021 Meeting, 4:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m., Azalea Coast Room in Fisher University Union on UNCW's campus

Since the committee's creation in 2004, the format, needs, and tasks have been modified over time, however, the commitment by the City of Wilmington and UNCW remains the same. Currently, the UCRA meets quarterly (four times a year) for 60 minutes in the months of January, April, July, and October. The meeting is moderated by the Vantage Pointe. The current UCRA composition is a partnership between the City of Wilmington, UNCW, and community members. The UCRA is Co-Chaired by the Director of Community Services for the City of Wilmington and Assistant Dean of Students at UNCW. The membership has evolved since 2004, but the 2017 makeup of the committee is as follows:

  • Alcohol Law Enforcement
  • Wilmington Apartment Association
  • Wilmington Board of Realtors
  • UNCW Dean of Students (2 representatives)

  • UNCW Police Department
  • UNCW Marketing and Communications (now Office of University Relations)
  • Cape Fear Community College
  • Wilmington Neighborhood Residents- College Acres, Carleton Place, Council of Neighborhood Associations
