UNCW will reopen on Wednesday, Feb. 4 at 7 a.m., when the university will resume normal operations for classes, activities and events. UNCW recognizes that winter weather impacts vary across our region, and some areas may be experiencing more challenging conditions than others. If the circumstances in your location prevent you from safely traveling to campus for classes or work tomorrow, please review the guidance below.
Classes
Classes will operate on a regular schedule. Students should contact their course instructor(s) as soon as possible if weather conditions will not permit them to attend class on Wednesday. However, all course policies remain in effect; students should consult their course syllabi for further details concerning class attendance and monitor their student email and Canvas site for updated messages from instructor(s). University policy on class attendance can be found in the UNCW Academic Catalogues in the University Regulations section for the undergraduate catalogue and in the Academic Regulations and Procedures section for the graduate catalogue.
Likewise, faculty who cannot be on campus Wednesday due to icy conditions have the option to adjust course modalities and arrange make-up work. Faculty will communicate any changes directly with their students.
Any additional questions regarding courses should be directed to the course instructor(s) or the academic department chair/school director. (A list of academic departments/schools can be found on each college website.)
University Employees
UNCW will remain in Condition 2 (Suspended Operations) under the Adverse Weather Policy until 7 a.m. tomorrow (Feb. 4). Normal operating conditions will resume at that time, and employees who need to alter their work schedules due to storm-related reasons should contact their supervisor as soon as possible to provide information and discuss options.
Continue to Use Caution on Campus
Please keep an eye out for icy patches when traveling to and around campus. Remember to be careful when traversing sidewalks and walking up or down steps or stairwells, watching for slippery spots. Consider double-checking the resources below to confirm service hours and schedules.

UNCW Communication Updates
The university does not plan to send additional messages about this weather event, but if conditions warrant a change, updates will be posted to the UNCW homepage, UNCW Alert page, UNCW Mobile and shared on social media feeds (Facebook, Instagram and X). These sources contain the latest information available to university officials. Monitor your campus email inboxes; messages with a reference to the weather in the subject line merit careful review.
In the event of university-level closings or cancellations, UNCW Alert text messages and the Emergency Information Hotline (1.888.657.5751) will be activated.
