University officials are continuing to monitor weather conditions closely. According to the National Weather Service, rain is expected in the Wilmington area. Be cautious in areas nearby and check services and resources before you head out.
UNCW will continue to monitor winter weather conditions as a precaution. No classes are cancelled at this time.
Residential Students
On-campus residential students are encouraged to stay indoors as much as possible, venturing outdoors only when necessary. When you are heading outdoors, wear warm layers and use caution. Remember to be careful when walking up or down steps or stairwells as they may be slippery in winter weather conditions. Housing and Residence Life will salt high-traffic areas. Management at Plato’s Loft and the Cottages at College Acres will coordinate weather preparation for HRL residents living there.
Other Events and Services
Cold weather conditions may impact scheduled events, activities and services on campus and in the Wilmington area throughout the week. Before heading out, please check relevant websites and/or social media feeds for the latest updates.

Classes
Students should contact their course instructor(s) as soon as possible if weather conditions will not permit them to attend class on Monday, Jan. 26. However, all course policies remain in effect; students should consult their course syllabi for further details concerning class attendance and monitor their student email and Canvas site for updated messages from instructor(s). University policy on class attendance can be found in the UNCW Academic Catalogues in the University Regulations section for the undergraduate catalogue and in the Academic Regulations and Procedures section for the graduate catalogue.
Any additional questions regarding courses should be directed to the course instructor(s) or the academic department chair/school director. (A list of academic departments/schools can be found on each college website.)
Updates
Additional messages will be shared as conditions warrant. Updates will be posted to the UNCW homepage, UNCW Alert page, UNCW Mobile and shared on social media feeds (Facebook, Instagram and X). These sources contain the latest information available to university officials. Continue to monitor your campus email inboxes; messages with a reference to the weather in the subject line merit careful review.
In the event of university-level closings or cancellations, UNCW Alert text messages and the Emergency Information Hotline (1.888.657.5751) will be activated.
Be Safe, Stay Informed
If you are traveling this weekend, monitor weather conditions closely. If driving, travel during daylight hours when road conditions can be more readily recognized. Avoid cell phone use; leave early to allow for additional travel time; reduce speed; increase following distance; and be patient.
As conditions may vary across North Carolina, please remember to make responsible decisions for your safety. See road condition information on the NCDOT website.
