Online Teaching Orientation & Refresher

Date/Time: August 9th, 2023, 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM


Description: This orientation session will be conducted by the Office of Distance Education and eLearning (DEeL) and will cover tips and best practices for the online facilitation of learning as well as an overview of Canvas, UNCW's Learning Management System, and Canvas tools used for facilitation.

This will be a completely online, virtual 2-hour session held via Zoom. Faculty must register at least 24-hours in advance. There is one session a month available to register. All sessions are held on the second Wednesday of every month.

Description: The online environment offers a variety of ways for you to provide effective and meaningful feedback to your students. During this 60-minute synchronous session, our panelists, Tom Dorgan, Kirsten Kringle-Baer, and Matt Sayball, will share their journey to embracing the use of text, audio, and video to provide feedback in their larger online courses. Our panelists will discuss ways to utilize platforms such as Canvas and VoiceThread to generate student feedback that is meaningful and timely for both the learner and the instructor.

Applying the Quality Matters Rubric (APPQMR) Workshop

Date/Time: December 5th, 2023 - December 19th, 2023


Description: The Applying the Quality Matters Rubric (APPQMR) workshop is a foundational workshop from Quality Matters (QM) that will provide you with an overview of the QM rubrics and its use in reviewing the design of online and blended courses. In addition, you will also learn to apply the concept of alignment and a research driven peer review process for course improvement. It’s $200 value workshop that DEeL is bringing to you at no cost. A great investment to get you prepared in designing quality online courses for your students. Register Today!!

Note: DEeL delivers APPQMR as a two-week, online asynchronous - there are no scheduled meetings. Participants report spending 10-12 hours per week to meet the workshop learning objectives.

Description: Looking to lock down your online testing environment? Respondus LockDown Browser® (LDB) is a custom browser that locks down the testing environment within Canvas. When students use Respondus LockDown Browser (LDB), they cannot print, copy, go to another URL, or access other applications. Applying the Quality Matters Rubric (APPQMR) Workshop

Survive to Thrive: Moving Beyond Rapid Remote Instruction 

Course Description

Global pandemics, hurricanes, ice and snowstorms...just a few of the unprecedented events that may cause a quick pivot towards rapid remote instruction. However, as situations change, it is important to recognize when and how online courses should be modified to reflect high-quality online learning best practices rather than rapid remote instruction.
