Excellence in Online Education Award

Professional Development and Trainings

The Excellence in Online Education Award is awarded annually to a UNCW instructor who has demonstrated outstanding, multi-faceted contributions to online teaching and learning in the past academic year. 

The winner, as determined by a review committee comprised of fellow UNCW instructors, will receive a $1,000 stipend, medallion, and framed certificate. Nominees will receive a personalized letter of thanks and recognition and helpful feedback (by request) from the award review process.

Eligibility

A UNCW instructor is eligible for nomination if they:  
  • Have taught a fully online, asynchronous course in the past 18 months.
  • Designed and developed the course they intend to submit as part of their nomination portfolio.  

Award Evaluation Criteria

The review committee will evaluate nominees and provide helpful feedback on the following criteria categories:
  • Course Design 
  • Course Facilitation 
  • Innovative Online Practice 
  • Continuous Improvement 
  • Student Voice

Once the nomination window closes, DEeL will contact all nominees with additional information regarding the submission of nomination portfolios. Please contact elearning@uncw.edu if you have any questions.

Faculty Review Committee

A review committee comprised of UNCW faculty volunteers will collectively determine the winner of the award by evaluating each nomination portfolio on the following five categories: course design, facilitation, innovative online practice, continuous improvement, and student voice.

As a reviewer, you will be provided with a supporting Canvas site that will include instructions on the review process as well as helpful resources for each evaluation category. You will also have the chance to attend a 30-minute Zoom Q&A session at the beginning of the review phase. The review phase will run from Mid-March to early June.
