The Film Studies Department offers the following scholarships for students majoring in film studies.

The Frank Capra, Jr., Film Studies Scholarship
This scholarship was established in recognition of the contributions of producer, mentor, and educator Frank Capra Jr., to the Wilmington film community and the UNCW Film Studies Department. The Frank Capra, Jr., Film Studies Scholarship is a $1000 tuition remission scholarship awarded each June.
The scholarship is merit based; demonstrated excellence in Film Studies and related areas is required. All application materials MUST be filed using the online system between the 1st of December, when the system goes live, through the 1st of March.
Be sure to upload a copy of a writing sample taken from one of your Film Studies courses, as well as a version of a film document: specify your specific contributions to the selected film. Decisions about the recipient of the award will be made on or around June 8th.
Eligibility Requirements:
- Full-time status at UNCW
- Junior or senior status (at least 60 credit hours completed)
- Film Studies major (pre-majors are not eligible)
- A minimum 3.5 GPA in FST courses, and a minimum 3.2 GPA overall
- A minimum of 18 hours in Film Studies courses

The Bucky Stein Scholarship in Film Studies
The scholarship was established by Debbie Smith, Chair, Wilmington Jewish Film Festival (WJFF) in memory of Bucky Stein. Bucky Stein was one of the founders the founders of the Wilmington Jewish Film Festival, a generous benefactor with a commitment to education and community outreach. The Bucky Stein Scholarship in Film Studies is a $1000 scholarship, distributed in equal installments in the Fall and Spring semesters.
The scholarship is considered a need-based scholarship with eligible recipients provided by the Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid. All application materials MUST be filed using the online system between the 1st of December, when the system goes live, through the 1st of March.
Be sure to upload a copy of a writing sample taken from one of your Film Studies courses, as well as a version of a film document: specify your specific contributions to the selected film. Decisions about the recipient of the award will be made on or around June 8th.
The award is renewable for one year provided the recipient continues to meet the criteria for award of the scholarship.

The C. Douglas "Doug" Cameron, Jr. Memorial Scholarship in Film Studies
The C. Douglas "Doug" Cameron, Jr. Memorial Scholarship in Film Studies is being established by his family to honor his unwavering love for life, his dedication to his craft as a self- employed sound engineer in the motion picture industry, and his enduring legacy as a proud UNCW alumnus. Doug graduated from UNCW in 1989 with a Bachelor of Science in Mass Communications, and his career was a testament to the power of creativity, perseverance, and passion. This scholarship is intended to inspire and support students pursuing a Film Studies degree at UNCW, empowering the next generation of storytellers and technicians to follow in Doug’s footsteps and bring their visions to life.
The scholarship will be used to assist students pursuing a degree offered by the Department of Film Studies. The C. Douglas "Doug" Cameron, Jr. Memorial Scholarship in Film Studies is a $1000 scholarship, distributed in equal installments in the Fall and Spring semesters. The scholarship is considered a merit-based scholarship, and the recipient will be selected on demonstrated academic ability and special achievement.
Financial need, as determined by the Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid, will be a secondary consideration.
