Front Desk Office Assistant Position Description

Thank you for your interest in becoming a Front Desk Office Assistant in the Office of Housing & Residence Life at UNC Wilmington. Please review the information below before beginning your application. 

A Front Desk Office Assistant (FDOA) is an hourly administrative staff member stationed at the front desk of the Office of Housing and Residence Life (HRL) during the academic year that may, also, opt to continue throughout the Summer. This position is supervised by the Front Desk Office Receptionist but may assist other professional HRL staff members with daily administrative tasks as assigned. This student staff position is an essential part of the day to day operations of the Housing Office as FDOAs provide loaner keys to residents, offer exceptional customer service as a representative of HRL, as well as, serve as a role model to fellow UNCW students. Specific responsibilities for each FDOA may vary day to day but there are varied job responsibilities listed below. 

Job Responsibilities:

 Provide exceptional customer service to students, parents, and staff

  • Answer multi-line phones
  • Perform Key Runner duties which include: meeting residents at the front desk of the respective building and following proper procedures to verify the resident's identity and check out the appropriate resident key.
  • File paperwork
  • Sort mail/packages
  • Enter information into databases
  • Other general duties as assigned by the Front Desk Supervisor and/or other professional office staff
  • May assist with the assignments process
  • May work Freshman Orientation/Seahawk Saturday/Move-In Day/Seahawk Preview Day

General Qualifications & Expectations for the Front Desk Office Assistant position:

  • Applicant must be a UNCW student in good academic standing with a minimum GPA of 2.5.
  • Applicant must be in good conduct standing with the university.
  • Applicant is expected to maintain confidentiality in regards to information about employees, information received from other staff members, or information discussed as staff.
  • Applicant must present a professional appearance and attitude at all times.
  • Must demonstrate excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Must be committed to successful teamwork with the entire Housing & Residence Life staff.
  • Expected to be a positive role model at all times as a representative of the Office of Housing & Residence Life and UNCW
  • Must demonstrate the ability to work under time constraints or with a schedule.
  • Must be dependable.
  • All absences from a scheduled shift must be requested in advance with the exception of illness or emergencies.

  • Front Desk Office Assistant starts at $7.75 an hour with potential to increase with continued employment.
