Front Desk Office Assistant Position Description

A Front Desk Office Assistant (FDOA) is a part time student staff member based out of the Office of Housing and Residence Life and directly supervised by the Front Desk Office Receptionist/Supervisor.  This hourly student staff position provides loaner keys to residents, assists with daily administrative tasks established by professional HRL staff, provides exceptional customer service, serves as a role model to UNCW students, and acts as a representative of the Office of Housing and Residence Life

Spring 2018 - 

For consideration for a Spring Term position, all application components must be submitted by November 17, 2017.  Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis; therefore, interviews may be scheduled prior to closing date.

Academic Eligibility

  • Student staff members are required to have and maintain a 2.5 GPA.
  • Housing and Residence Life Office Assistants must be in good conduct standing with the university.


  • Must demonstrate excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Must be committed to successful teamwork with the entire Housing & Residence Life staff.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to work under time constraints or with a schedule.
  • Must be dependable; absences from a scheduled shift must be requested in advance with the exception of illness or emergencies.

Job Responsibilities

Specific responsibilities for each FDOA may vary day to day, but generally include the following:

  • Perform loaner key check outs and re-keys to students at the front desk of their respective residential area during normal business hours.
  • Follow proper procedures to verify residents’ identities and check out the appropriate key.
  • Drive and maintain golf carts. (refill gas – charge battery)
  • Provide coverage for Front Desk at all times.
  • Offer excellent customer service in person at the Front Desk of the HRL Office.
  • Answer Front Desk phones.
  • Relay accurate and up-to-date information to students and families.
  • Assist students and families with accurate information about the University.
  • Complete and file paperwork.
  • Place phone calls.
  • Sort mail.
  • Run errands for various staff members.
  • Assist area HRL Office Staff with tasks as needed.
*Student Staff may be asked to work Freshman Orientation/Seahawk Saturday(or Preview Day)/Move-In Day


  • Front Desk Office Assistant starts at $7.25 an hour with potential to increase with continued employment.
