Diversity-Related Initiatives
The diversity-related centers associated with the Office of Institutional Diversity and Inclusion (OIDI) have far-reaching community engagement initiatives. Several of these initatives are described below.
Cape Fear Region Minority Entrepreneurship Development (MED) Week
Cape Fear Region MED Week recognizes the outstanding achievements of minority entrepreneurs and provides opportunities for networking and business growth. The large series of workshops, speakers, and networking venues are built on a partnership between local businesses, the UNCW Office of Institutional Diversity and Inclusion, UNCW Center for Innovation & Entrepreneurship, UNCW Office of Business Affairs, UNCW Career Center, UNCW Cameron School of Business, and the Greater Wilmington Chamber of Commerce. MI CASA Initiative
The goal of this two year program is to identify high achieving Hispanic students from local high schools who wish to further their education in universities like UNCW. During this college preparatory process, high school mentees and UNCW mentors foster a stronger sense of community. See more here >
Office of Institutional Diversity and Inclusion (OIDI)
In the pursuit of excellence, the University of North Carolina Wilmington actively fosters, encourages, and promotes inclusiveness, mutual respect, acceptance and open-mindedness among students, faculty, staff, and the broader community. Diversity is an educational benefit that enhances the academic experience, and fosters a free exchange of ideas from multiple perspectives. Three centers operate as part of this office.
