1. Apply to Graduate

Before participating in commencement exercises, you will need to apply to graduate through your SeaNet account. If you are a Class of 2020 graduate, you are invited to participate in the Fall Commencement Exercises as long as you have completed all degree requirements and applied to graduate. The graduation application deadline to participate in Fall Commencement Exercises is Monday, October 19

For more information about the graduation application process, visit the Office of the Registrar.

2. Mark your Calendar

Once you have applied to graduate, mark your calendar with your ceremony date and time. UNCW hosts a formal commencement ceremony in addition to several smaller, departmental celebrations and commencement-related events. Visit the Ceremony Information page to identify your commencement ceremony date and time. Departmental Celebration information will be available at the beginning of November.

3. Request your Commencement Box

All Class of 2020 graduates who have applied to graduate are eligible to receive a commencement box delivered to their home. If you were approved to participate in the Fall Commencement Exercises after Friday, October 30, you will need to complete the Late Request for Commencement Box form

For more information about the Class of 2020 Commencement Box, click here.

4. Order your Cap and Gown

All graduates will have the opportunity to obtain their official regalia, announcements, and other graduation merchandise through the Herff Jones ordering website. For the fall 2020 semester, all August and December graduate regalia orders will be placed online and will be shipped directly to graduates’ homes. If you are an August or December graduate, regalia ordering will open on October 5. You should also continue to monitor your email and visit the Cap and Gown page for more information.

If you are a May 2020 graduate, you should have received your regalia in the spring semester. If you still require regalia, please contact the Office of Transition Programs at transitions@uncw.edu.

5. Check your Financial Status

As you prepare to graduate, make sure that you do not have any outstanding balances with the university by checking your E-Bill. All payments need to be paid to the university before you can receive your official UNCW diploma in the mail. Perkins loan recipients will need to complete their mandatory exit counseling prior to graduation. Federal loan recipients will need to complete their Federal Direct Loan Exit Counseling at studentaid.gov. For any financial aid related questions, join the Chat Tuesday Live Chats or contact your financial aid advisor

6. Complete the First Destination Survey

Let us know where you are headed after UNCW by completing the First Destination Survey. We want to hear if you have secured employment, are planning to pursue more education, or if you are still figuring it out. Remember that the UNCW Career Center is here for you as a resource even as an alum!

7. Get Ready to Celebrate!

We are so excited to celebrate your academic accomplishments! Use the hashtag #UNCWAlumni to share photos of your cap and gown, commencement box, and of your commencement celebrations as you prepare for Commencement Day.
