1. Apply to Graduate

Before participating in commencement exercises, you will need to apply to graduate through SeaNet. If you are a May 2021 graduate, you are invited to participate in the Spring Commencement Exercises as long as you have completed all degree requirements and applied to graduate. The graduation application deadline to participate in Spring Commencement Exercises is Monday, March 22. After you apply to graduate, you will begin to receive email related to the commencement exercises.

For more information about the graduation application process, visit the Office of the Registrar

2. Complete your Commencement Registration

All graduates will receive an email on March 26, asking them to register their Commencement Registration account. From this account, you will be able to review your in-person and virtual commencement options for our May ceremonies. You will be able to reserve your spot at your preferred ceremony date and time, update your custom graduate recognition slide with a personal photo, and provide phonetic information to ensure your name is called correctly on the day of your ceremony.

Once you have activated your Commencement Registration account, you’ll be able to log-in here and make any adjustments or updates until Tuesday, April 20. Phonetic information will need to be provided and finalized by Sunday, April 14.

3. Request your Commencement Box

All spring graduates who have applied to graduate are eligible to receive a commencement box delivered to their home. Spring graduates need to complete the Commencement Box Request Form by Monday, April 26 to ensure delivery before the Spring Commencement Exercises.

For more information about the Class of 2021 Commencement Box, click here.

4. Order your Cap and Gown

All graduates will have the opportunity to obtain their official regalia, announcements, and other graduation merchandise through the Herff Jones ordering website. For the spring 2021 semester, all regalia orders will be placed online and will be shipped directly to graduates’ homes. For May 2021 graduates, regalia ordering will be open early March - April 14. You should also continue to monitor your email and visit the Cap and Gown page for more information.

5. Schedule your Graduate Photo Session

As a May 2021 graduate, you will have the opportunity to have your official commencement photos taken on-campus prior to commencement. Graduate photo sessions will include a variety of backdrops, including a photo on a stage with a traditional commencement stage setup. Sessions will take place from Wednesday, April 21 – Friday, April 23 in Warwick Center Ballroom.

For more information and to schedule, visit the Graduate Photo Sessions page.

6. Check your Financial Status

As you prepare to graduate, make sure that you do not have any outstanding balances with the university by checking your E-Bill. All payments need to be paid to the university before you can receive your official UNCW diploma in the mail. Perkins loan recipients will need to complete their mandatory exit counseling prior to graduation. Federal loan recipients will need to complete their Federal Direct Loan Exit Counseling at studentaid.gov. For any financial aid related questions, join the Chat Tuesday Live Chats or contact your financial aid advisor

7. Complete the First Destination Survey

Let us know where you are headed after UNCW by completing the First Destination Survey. We want to hear if you have secured employment, are planning to pursue more education, or if you are still figuring it out. Remember that the UNCW Career Center is here for you as a resource even as an alum!

8. Get Ready to Celebrate!

We are so excited to celebrate your academic accomplishments! Use the hashtag #UNCWAlumni to share photos of your cap and gown, commencement box, and of your commencement celebrations as you prepare for Commencement Day.
