Commencement Ceremonies Header

The UNCW Spring Commencement Exercises, offered both in-person and virtually, will contain traditional ceremony elements including commencement speeches from the chancellor, provost and the senior class president. Graduates will be individually recognized by via slides that contain their name, degree earned and Latin Honors (if applicable). Ceremony livestreams will be accessible from the UNCW homepage and Ceremony Livestream page beginning Friday, May 7. All ceremonies will be fully close-captioned. 


In-Person Ceremony Information:


UNCW is pleased to offer in-person ceremonies to our May 2021 graduates. All in-person ceremony will take place in Trask Coliseum. Below are in-person ceremony date and times:

Friday, May 7 at 1 p.m.
Friday, May 7 at 5 p.m.
Saturday, May 8 at 9 a.m.
Saturday, May 8 at 1 p.m.

Graduates choosing to celebrate their commencement in-person will have the opportunity to RSVP for their preferred ceremony date and time. All in-person ceremonies are general commencement ceremonies, meaning they are not separated by school or college. Graduates can select their preferred ceremony on a first-come, first-served basis through their Commencement Registration account. Graduates must register for their ceremony by Tuesday, April 20.

Graduates will be provided one guest ticket for their in-person ceremony. Graduates will sit directly next to their guest and six feet of physical distancing will be observed around the graduate/guest pair. Seating will be randomly assigned through Trask Coliseum. Graduates will receive their GradPass and Guest e-ticket to their Commencement Registration account beginning Wednesday, April 21.

Graduates will be individually recognized from their seats at their in-person ceremony. Graduates names will be called individually with a slide displaying their name, degree earned, Latin honors (if applicable) and a personal photo. Graduates will be asked to stand, if they are able, to be recognized when their name is called. Graduates are asked to review and update their custom recognition slide by completing their Commencement Registration.

All in-person ceremonies will be livestreamed and fully-close captioned for remote viewing.

Virtual Ceremony Information:


UNCW is pleased to offer a fully virtual ceremony for our May 2021 graduates. The virtual ceremony will be available for viewing beginning on May 7 at 1 p.m. After that time, the virtual ceremony will be accessible for one year.

Graduates participating virtually will hear remarks from the chancellor, provost, and senior class president. They will be individually recognized via a slide containing their name, degree earned, and Latin honors (if applicable), and a personal photo. Slides will read each graduate name aloud. Graduates should review and update their personal slide by completing the Commencement Registration Page.
