Transfer Orientation Overview

Transfer Orientation is a required experience for all new transfer students. It includes both online modules and an in-person program designed to connect you with resources and support as you transition to UNCW.

The online modules must be completed before you can register for classes. They cover important information about academic advising and class registration.

Orientation registration opens online in the applicant status portal on Friday, February 27.

Step 1: Register for Orientation

Transfer Orientation Registration will open at noon on Friday, February 27.

To register, follow these instructions:

• Log-in to your Applicant Status Portal
• Click on "Register for Your Required Orientation" on your Enrollment Checklist.
• Select the event you would like to attend and fill out the registration form. There is a section labeled “Guest Information” where you can add up to two guests. There will be a separate payment activity added to your enrollment checklist for your guest fees.

Once the registration form is completed and payment activity submitted, students and registered guests will receive a payment confirmation e-mail.

Orientation Fees

The orientation fee includes but is not limited to rental fees, technology fees, credit card fees, orientation software, students and staff payroll, printed materials, parking, and office operations and supplies.

In addition to the items above, the student fee includes a teal t-shirt and a lanyard. Guests 18+ will receive a tote bag, a family guide and calendar, a pen, and a Wilmington guide.

Session Dates & Deadlines

Transfer Orientation is a required, 1-day program lasting from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. You are required to stay for the duration of the program.

*Note: The August session has limited capacity and is primarily intended for students outside a 400-mile radius from UNCW. Students who have a specific need to attend this date should contact transitions@uncw.edu to discuss availability.

Step 3: Register for Your Courses

Transfer course registration will open on April 20 at 10 a.m. Your pre-registration module must be completed before you can register for classes.

Advising is an important part of your onboarding at UNCW. No matter what school or college your major belongs to, you should:

• Keep an eye on your UNCW email and be ready to respond to outreach from your advisor.
• Review the transfer equivalencies website.
• Familiarize yourself with DegreeWorks in mySeaport and review your degree audit. Information on how to use DegreeWorks and what to register for can be found in the pre-registration module.
• Get to know the requirements for your major. The academic course catalog can be found HERE.

Requests for accommodations can be submitted through your Orientation registration on the orientation registration site.

Accessibility Accommodations

Students who need reasonable accommodations during orientation can make a request to the Office of Transition Programs. Please make your request at least 7 days prior to your orientation date.

Dietary Restrictions

Vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options are available at each meal time. 

Additional dietary restrictions should be included in your Orientation registration.

All changes and refund requests must be submitted in writing by submitting the appropriate request form in the Applicant Status Portal.

Adding or Removing Guests

Guests can be added or removed from your registration until 7 days prior to your session date (see refund schedule above).

On-site registration for guests is subject to space availability and is not guaranteed. A $15 late registration fee will be added to any on-site registrations.

Session Change Requests

Students can request a session change up to 7 days prior to their originally scheduled date. Date changes are not confirmed until written notification is received from Transition Programs. Date changes occurring within 7 days of your original date will incur a $25 change fee. 

Refund Requests

All refund requests must be requested 7 days prior to your session date. The refund, minus a $5 processing fee, will be applied to your original form of payment. Requests made within 7days of your session will not be granted. 

Students no longer planning on attending the university need to notify the Admissions Office to cancel their admission and can do so via their applicant status portal.

If students have on-campus housing, they will need to notify Housing and Residence Life in writing regarding their housing.
