Three-Plus-Two Computer Science and Electrical or Computer Engineering Program Overview

Joint Program

A 3+2 program offers you the opportunity to double major – earn a degree in a science major from UNCW in approximately three years and an engineering degree at NC State in the final two years of study. You will complete the NC State engineering transfer admission requirements while completing your UNCW major and University Studies requirements.

Dual Campus Experience

Live the full UNCW experience while completing most of the major requirements for the computer science degree in your first three years. You have the option to take one to two NC State engineering courses live in our state-of-the-art videoconference classroom on UNCW’s beautiful coastal campus.

On-site faculty and staff will be available to support and facilitate your learning in the NC State engineering courses. Upon successful transfer admission to NC State, you will take all upper-level engineering courses in Raleigh. Select engineering courses will transfer back to UNCW to fulfill a portion of the computer science degree.

Each student has a customized plan of study and may take courses in Circuits and Electromagnetic Systems, Power Systems, Computer Architecture, Embedded Systems, Networking and/or Software Systems.

How Do I Apply to the Program?

Students apply to UNCW as any student would, but it is best to indicate your interest in this program on your application for admission. Optimally, the program should be started in fall of the freshman year to stay on track for completion of the program in the five year window.

You will work with an expert advising team to help plan your course of study during your three years at UNCW. Transfer admission to NC State is not guaranteed; you will apply to the NC State College of Engineering as a transfer student during your junior year. From there, you will work with an engineering advisor to select courses based on your concentrations of interest.
