Geosciences, B.A. Program Overview

Learn To

Understand and be able to apply the scientific method to geoscience problems and demonstrate the ability to critically read, logically evaluate, and effectively communicate data, problems, and issues in the geosciences

Identify and describe common Earth materials, the processes that form and later modify earth materials and key events in the evolution of Earth

Alumni work in:

Work with federal and state agencies, local planning boards, and non-governmental organizations to develop plans for conservation and sustainable use of natural resources such as water, minerals, and fossil fuels.

Assist federal and state agencies, local planning boards, and non-governmental organizations to develop plans for monitoring, mapping, and mitigating natural hazards such as flooding, landslides, and beach erosion.

Employ your knowledge of geology, weather and climate, hydrology, and surface processes to conduct environmental assessments, provide data for engineering and construction projects, identify and minimize environmental hazards, and ensure compliance with current health and environmental protection laws.

Contribute to improving geoscience literacy and training future professionals.

Obtain an advanced degree in geosciences to pursue faculty positions and conduct university-level teaching, research, and outreach.
