Digital forensics, or cybercrime forensics, professionals are called in to investigate when information is stolen from a computer, network, web application, cellphone or another digital device.

Cryptographers are code makers while cryptanalysts are code breakers. Cryptographers create encryption codes to securitize sensitive data. Cryptanalysts are generally employed by law enforcement and government to decipher encryption codes.

Risk managers develop and communicate risk policies. In addition to understanding an organization’s risk, a risk manager defines the company’s risk appetite with strategies to minimize, eliminate or transfer risk.

The privacy officer is responsible for the organization’s privacy program including but not limited to daily operations of the program, development, implementation and maintenance of policies and procedures.

Security information specialists are integrated into the personnel, physical and counterintelligence security disciplines to ensure highly sensitive information in security processes is protected and handled following applicable laws and policies.

GIS security specialists deliver geospatial intelligence that provides a decisive advantage to policymaker, warfighter and intelligence professionals.

How do I become a Cybersecurity minor?

The Minor in Cybersecurity is open to all UNCW students, except Cybersecurity majors.

No more than 6 hours can be counted toward the minor and a student’s major.

To earn a minor in Cybersecurity, the completion of 18 hours is required, including 6 hours of core courses and 12 hours of electives, with a minimum 6 hours at the 300 level or higher.

Students must earn a “C” or above average in all classes in the minor, and grade of at least “C-” in each course.
