Studio Art, Minor Program Overview

Broad Exposure, Small Classes

The Studio Art minor offers a multidisciplinary view of current art practice. The department emphasizes exposure to a range of media in small classes with individual attention. Through technical skill and creative thinking, students are encouraged to develop a personal, disciplined direction with an understanding of their place in art history and contemporary art.

The Studio Experience

The curriculum provides studio experiences in drawing, painting, sculpture, ceramics, photography, printmaking and graphic design. Exhibiting artists in the CAB Gallery and visiting artists are a regular presence and enhance student learning through lectures, collaborative projects and studio visits.

No Boundaries

Opportunities to study abroad, ranging from short-term spring break programs to longer summer programs, await you. Students are encouraged to explore international archaeological sites, major monuments and world-renowned museum collections in places such as Paris, Barcelona, Madrid, Rome, Pompeii, Florence, Japan, Macedonia, Belize, Guatemala and South Africa, in person.

How Do I Apply to the Studio Art Minor Program?

No special requirements for admission.

No more than 3 hours of ART 491 or 3 hours of ART 498 may be counted toward the minor.

Courses counted toward a major in art history (i.e. ART 101, 102) cannot be counted toward completion of minor requirements. Six additional hours of studio art courses may be chosen to fulfill minor requirements for art history majors. A grade of "C" (2.00) or better is required for each course counted toward the minor
