Students can choose from two other tracks, as well: Literary Studies and Professional Writing. This option prepares students to teach English at the secondary level.
Students complete Watson College of Education requirements plus 42 hours of English courses as follows:
- Eight courses in literature:
- ENG 205: "Introduction to Literary Studies"
- ENG 332 or 333: Shakespeare
- ENG 381: "Literature for Young Adults"
- ENG 382: "Ways of Teaching Literature" or
- ENG 383: "Classics Reconsidered"
- ENG 223 or 224: American Literature Survey
- ENG 211 or 212: British Literature Survey
- ENG 225 or 226: World Literature Survey
- ENG 3XX: One course in Diverse Literary Cultures (340, 341, 342, 343, 344, 355, 356, 357, 358, 359, 370, 371 or 385)
- ENG 304: "Writing for Teachers"
- ENG 314: "Writing and Technology"
- ENG 32X: One course in English language (320, 321, 322, 323, 324, or 325)
- ENG 495 or 496: Senior seminar
- Two additional ENG electives
