M.S. in Nursing - Nurse Educator

Find details regarding required courses for students in the MSN Nurse Educator program.

Curriculum Notice
The School of Nursing is revising the Nurse Educator program curriculum to align with new accreditation standards. Currently enrolled students will complete the program as originally scheduled. The new curriculum will begin in August (Fall 1) 2026, and applications for the new curriculum will open in Spring 2026.
Current Cohort Core Courses

Enrolling in NSG 513 before other nursing education foundation courses will prepare the enrollee for subsequent course work and lay a foundation for the MSN-NE program essentials.

  • NSG 513 is a pre- or co-requisite to NSG 511 and a pre-requisite to NSG 524 and NSG 525.
  • NSG 511 is a pre- or co-requisite to NSG 501 and NSG 510, and a pre-requisite to NSG 516, NSG 524, NSG 525, NSG 582, NSG 584, NSG 592, and NSG 593.
  • NSG 516 is a pre-requisite to NSG 517.
  • NSG 513, NSG 524, and NSG 525 are pre-requisites to NSG 596 - Nursing Education Practicum I Taking these courses in sequence will prepare new enrollees for the teaching practicum experience and the development of an evidence-based project.
  • NSG 596 is a pre-requisite to NSG 597 - Nursing Education Practicum II. NSG 596 and NSG 597 should be taken the final two sessions before graduation.

  • NSG 511 – Principles of Research and Evidence-based Practices for Nursing Education Credit Hours: 3
  • NSG 513 - Foundations and Evidence-Based Practices for Nursing Education Didactic Instruction Credit Hours: 3
  • NSG 516 - Advanced Pathophysiology and Pharmacotherapeutics I Credit Hours: 3
  • NSG 517 - Advanced Pathophysiology and Pharmacotherapeutics II Credit Hours: 3
  • NSG 524 - Foundations and Evidence-Based Practices for Nursing Education Clinical Instruction Credit Hours: 3
