For admission to a graduate degree program at the University of North Carolina Wilmington, applicants must:
- hold a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university in this country or its equivalent in a foreign institution. Equivalency of international baccalaureate degrees will be determined using World Education Services (WES.org) course-by-course transcript evaluations submitted to the Graduate School.
- have a strong overall academic record with a GPA of 3.0 or higher in the basic courses prerequisite to the area of proposed graduate study; and
- meet additional admission requirement(s) as outlined by the graduate program.
The ideal candidate for this program is an early to mid-level careerist who presents with a bachelor's degree in a healthcare-related discipline [i.e., business with healthcare concentration, healthcare administration, public health, nursing, or other allied health disciplines] and a minimum of at least one (1) year of work experience in a healthcare-related field (including, not limited to: hospital, out-patient facility, public health entity, long-term care, etc.).
After admission to the program, candidates who meet certain requirements beyond the ideal entrance requirements, focusing on overall years of experience in healthcare, types of roles (with a focus on leadership/management), contributions to healthcare organizations, and work setting (employed in a healthcare organization directly involved in service delivery, management, or support) can request a waiver of the required HCA 593 and 594 practicum courses.
Part-time Study for Master of Healthcare Administration (MHA) Programs
Students may enroll part-time. Each student will work with his/her advisor in designing his/her part-time program of study. Students who are enrolled full-time and find it necessary to change their status to part-time will develop a part-time program of study with their advisor. The program must be completed in five years from initial enrollment into the graduate program.
