The Razor Walker Awards are an award for distinguished service to the children and youth of North Carolina.
Since 1993, the Watson College of Education has honored individuals whose vision, tenacity, courage and sacrifice have made a difference in the lives of young people in our state. Many of these individuals have overcome great obstacles and taken significant professional risk to support the education and health of children and youth.
They come from many different backgrounds and walks of life, from all areas of the state, and from a variety of different professions, but they all have one thing in common: an unwavering commitment to give North Carolina's children every opportunity to grow up strong and healthy, to receive a high-quality education, and to become our society's future leaders.
The Razor Walker Awards celebrate the efforts, achievements and contributions of these special people, who believe so strongly that our children are our most precious resource. We thank them for "walking the razor's edge" for the children and youth of North Carolina.
Based on collective input from WCE faculty and staff, as well as the Chancellor's Cabinet, we have decided to take time to review and potentially reimagine the award’s processes and procedures; therefore, we will pause the award cycle for 2024.
To facilitate this review, we will establish a committee composed of faculty, staff, and other stakeholders to engage in an open dialogue about the awards. We will consult with the WCE leadership and others regarding the committee’s composition and expect to have the committee in place for the spring semester. The goal of the committee will be to produce recommendations about the Razor Walker Awards for consideration by university leadership.
We look forward to the collaborative process that lies ahead in 2024.
