For nearly 30 years, UNCW’s Watson College of Education has sponsored the Razor Walker Awards.

This prestigious honor recognizes North Carolinians for their service to the children and youth in our state. Awards are also presented annually to alumni for outstanding contributions to education.

Razor Walker Awards

WCE is proud to present Razor Walker Awards each year to recognize leaders for their vision, tenacity, courage and sacrifice in service to the youth in our state. Recipients come from an array of areas including the arts and literature, law, public service and policy, business, medicine, education and philanthropy. In all cases, the awardees “walk the razor’s edge” on behalf of children, families and communities.

Watson College of Education Alumni Awards

The UNCW Watson College of Education Alumni Chapter recognizes alumni who have made significant contributions to education. Nominations for these annual awards are available in the spring and accepted from alumni, faculty, staff and community members. The award is presented at a WCE alumni reception.

Leading with Impact Alumni Award

The Leading with Impact Award was introduced in 2023 by WCE’s Department of Educational Leadership. The award recognizes Ed.D. alumni who have made outstanding commitments to leadership, the education profession and public service. In February 2023, Lisa Ireland Peele ’16 Ed.D. was honored with the inaugural Leading with Impact award. Dr. Peele is Director of Cultural & Global Leadership for Onslow County Schools.
