Why Honors?

The Honors College promotes personal growth and academic challenges for its students.

First and foremost, our students are curious. They are problem solvers, innovators, creators. The heart of the Honors experience is exploration and learning.

It's true that the UNCW Honors College has required coursework and a GPA requirement. But we believe the honors experience is so much more than grades or book smarts. The one thing we want for all our students is meaningful, hands-on learning experiences that connect many different fields of study.

Savannah Miller's Honors College Story

Savannah Miller, a public health student in the UNCW Class of 2020, did exactly this kind of exploration.

Savannah went on to the Emory University master's program in Public Health, with her eyes set on medical school afterward.

The Honors College welcomes students of all disciplines, from creative writing to history to marine biology to business.

We believe in our students' capacity to bring their backgrounds from all fields of study to explore the world, tackle complex problems, create art, or otherwise transform learning into action and meaning. It's your story – and we're here to help you write it.
