We do this for two major reasons:
- To help us manage our resources, including time and our budgets.
- To help us improve our programs and services to better serve UNCW students.
To help protect your data and your privacy, we follow procedures set by the UNCW Data Governance Committee. This committee is responsible for guiding data governance policy, strategy, risk management, and data management.
Data Classification
The data governance program defines different levels of data sensitivity. Data such as a student’s name or major have a “normal” sensitivity level, indicating low risks to privacy if they were exposed, while data such as records from the Student Health Center are classified as “highly sensitive,” given that the information is regulated and maintains certain protections from being shared without consent.
More information about data governance and data handling procedures for the four sensitivity classifications can be found at the UNCW Data Governance website.
