Dr. Daniel Buffington, Assistant Professor, holds a B.A. in Anthropology and Art History from the University of New Mexico as well as an M.A. and Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of Georgia. His teaching and research interests include: Social Inequality; the Intersection of Race, Class, and Gender; Culture; Mass Media and Popular Culture; as well as Sport and Leisure. Daniel’s dissertation, “Watching the World Cup American Style: Race, Nationality, and Gender in the World’s Game,” synthesized these interests through an examination of media coverage and fandom surrounding the men’s World Cup of soccer. Dr. Buffington has published articles on racial stereotyping in American sport media and the impact of media on understandings of the social world.
