Director, Women's Studies and Resource Center


The Office of Institutional Diversity and Inclusion in the Division of Academic Affairs invites applications and nominations for Director of Women’s Studies and Resource Center (WSRC).

The Women’s Studies and Resource Center engages an interdisciplinary community of scholars, students and advocates working in gender, sexuality and Women’s Studies. The Center promotes gender equality, both locally and globally, through research support, programming, an academic minor, and community engagement. Finally, the Center provides physical space for gathering, resources, and referrals for the UNCW and Wilmington communities. The Director is responsible for administering the Women’s Studies and Resource Center, teaching one course per semester, overseeing the Women’s and Gender Studies minor, collaborating with the Graduate Liberal Studies Director on the post-baccalaureate certificate in Women’s and Gender Studies, implementing educational/cultural programs that promote women’s issues, developing a research agenda and research projects about women’s and gender issues, facilitating the initiatives of the Center’s advisory board, and collaborating with other programs and units at UNCW and related regional institutions.  This is an “at will” appointment that carries a 1.0 FTE service obligation on a 12-month basis with continuation or discontinuation at the discretion of the Chancellor.  The expectation is that the successful candidate will serve for three (3) years with a possibility of renewal.

Minimum requirements for the Director position include tenure in an academic department at UNCW, demonstrated commitment to diversity and equity, record of commitment to the WSRC’s initiatives and research related to women's and gender studies, and excellent communication, interpersonal relations, and administration skills. Preferred qualifications include experience in teaching courses focused on women's or gender studies, co-curricular event planning experience, and grant activity.  The Director will report directly to the Associate Provost for Diversity and Inclusion.

Priority consideration will be given to applications received by May 20; however, applications will be accepted until the position is filled. Anticipated start date is July 1, 2014.
