Dr. Clements Steps Down as Director
Effective August 6, 2014, Dr. Carrie Clements will be stepping down as Director of the Center for Teaching Excellence and the Center for Faculty Leadership.
Dr. Clements has led the Center for Teaching Excellence since 2004, and took over leadership of the Center for Faculty Leadership in 2011. Throughout her tenure as Director, CTE and CFL have instituted transformative programs, provided support for faculty, striven to enhance the quality of teaching at UNCW, and provided a forum for discussions on topics ranging from best pedagogical practices to leadership. Among the various initiatives supported by CTE are the initiation of the Discere Aude Awards for faculty mentoring and the Lecturer of the Year Award, the annual Celebration of Teaching, university-wide mentoring, faculty book circles, Chairs Camp, Policy Camp, and facilitation of weekly faculty development workshops ranging from assessment and university studies to information on new policies. During her tenure as Director, New Faculty Orientation was transformed into a three-day event that enables new faculty to begin their careers at UNCW warmly welcomed and informed about the practices and cultures of this institution and our region, including the “Roads Scholars” Tour during which new faculty are taken on a guided bus tour of sites of community-based faculty research.
Dr. Clements also has maintained her scholarly activity during this time. She was awarded the UNCW Distinguished Faculty Scholar Award and the J. Marshall Crews Distinguished Faculty Award. She has published more than 35 articles in noted psychology journals, ~18 since being Director of CTE. She has edited two books on Best Practices in Teaching, including collections of essays by UNCW’s award-winning faculty, and has collaborated on the Journal of Effective Teaching.
